Turkish Airlines Set to Initiate Flights to New Zealand

Turkish Airlines, known for flying to the most countries globally, is preparing to increase its network further. Following the launch of its initial direct flights to Australia in 2024, the airline is now targeting a new destination: New Zealand.

Aiming for Auckland

During the recent Turkish Airlines Management Summit 2025 held in Antalya, Chairman Ahmet Bolat disclosed plans for the airline to start flights to New Zealand via Auckland, with a stop in Singapore. This would make Turkish Airlines the only European airline to provide a direct route connecting New Zealand and Europe, albeit with stops in both Singapore and Istanbul.

Currently, Qatar Airways and Emirates are the only airlines offering non-stop services between Auckland and the Middle East, allowing Kiwis a one-stop transfer to Europe and the UK. Until Turkish Airlines can offer a non-stop service to Auckland—as it has promised for Sydney and Melbourne later—this new route might not be attractive to all travelers.

Expanding Horizons

At the summit, Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, stated that Turkish Airlines is also considering new destinations in Africa, Asia, and the United States. Bolat mentioned that the airline is set to begin a new route to Minneapolis, USA, in April or May and will resume flights to Damascus, Syria, this month.

A Growing Fleet

As one of the largest carriers globally, Turkish Airlines inaugurated its services in 1933 and presently operates in 350 destinations across approximately 130 countries. The airline recently commenced its inaugural flights to Sydney from Istanbul following a successful launch in Melbourne.
