Donavanik: The Continuing Influence of Thai Hospitality in a Changing Landscape

Insights from Dusit International's vice-chairman on maintaining relevance in global hospitality.

Dusit International’s vice-chairman and executive committee chairman Chanin Donavanik shared his thoughts regarding the company’s continued relevance in the evolving hospitality sector. During a keynote session with Hoftel chairman Simon Allison on June 23 at the South East Asia Hotel Investors’ Summit (SEAHIS) held at Dusit Thani Bangkok, Donavanik emphasized the positive perception of Thailand’s hospitality worldwide.

Keeping a Thai Sensibility

Donavanik noted that Dusit International prioritizes preserving Thai charm in its global properties. For instance, he mentioned the opening of two hotels in Japan, which integrated both Japanese architecture and Thai design elements.

Coping with Evolving Demographics

The discussion also touched on catering to younger travelers, with Donavanik citing the revitalization of Dusit Thani Bangkok as a successful case study. While older generations cherished the hotel’s traditional feel, the renovations have attracted younger customers by modernizing the hotel’s appeal.

“I think that, for any good property, it needs to be one that even younger guests can enjoy. They don’t have to come to us every day, but they can come whenever they wish.”

This adaptability, along with a focus on maintaining the authenticity of Thai hospitality, places Dusit International in a strong position within the competitive landscape.
