Kyoto warmly welcomes visitors for the summer season with the Kyoto Summer Special Openings 2025. This exclusive program grants access to historically significant sites typically closed to the public.

From July 11 to September 30, 2025, this initiative celebrates its 50th anniversary with the captivating theme, Waterscapes to Visit in Summer and Modern Architecture Masterpieces of Kyoto. Notably, special evening light-up events will offer a serene experience of Kyoto’s heritage after sunset.

  • Shosei-en Garden: Enshin-do Hall
    Step inside this historic 17th-century hall, historically the residence of the Higashi Hongan-ji Temple’s head. Admission: ¥500

  • Higashi Hongan-ji Temple: Goei-do-mon Gate
    Ascend Japan’s tallest wooden gate for unparalleled views of Kyoto. Admission: ¥800

Evening Highlights

  • Ninna-ji Temple Night Viewing
