Marina Bay Sands Implements Robotics for Efficient Deliveries

Marina Bay Sands enhances operational efficiency by deploying robotic delivery systems intended to streamline hotel operations and services.

Marina Bay Sands has deployed a fleet of 12 Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) for its back-of-house deliveries. This initiative aims to optimize operations not only in the hotel but also within its expo and convention facilities.

Typically used in factories worldwide for supply chain logistics, these AMRs undertake crucial yet labor-intensive tasks to enhance the efficiency of the resort, which operates 24/7.

Each robot, equipped with nearly 20 pre-programmed routes, can carry up to 300 kg and can move at speeds of up to 84 meters per minute. They also feature safety laser scanners for intelligent navigation and obstacle detection.

Initially, four robots were introduced in March 2024, with an additional eight implemented in September 2024 to assist in deliveries across the hotel and convention center. A further five robots are set to be deployed in the latter half of 2025.

The resort’s Vice President of Procurement and Supply Chain, Shijith Prathapan, emphasizes the importance of effective workforce planning for large-scale operations. “We have fostered a culture of productivity by investing in innovation,” he noted. With over 200 work processes automated, the resort repurposes over 162,000 man-hours annually towards more valuable tasks.

Further advancements include a recent upgrade of the inventory management system in the Wardrobe, which houses over 200,000 uniforms using an advanced stocktaking procedure. Previously, each uniform had a high-frequency chip; now, they are embedded with ultra-high-frequency chips, significantly enhancing tracking and management capabilities through automated stocktaking, reducing a process that used to be manual.
