Mount Rainier National Park to Extend Timed Entry Reservation System
The park is maintaining its reservation system for summer to enhance visitor experience and minimize overcrowding.
Overview
Mount Rainier National Park has confirmed its decision to continue the timed entry reservation system during the upcoming summer season. This initiative aims to enhance the visitor experience by minimizing wait times, congestion, and the detrimental effects of overcrowding on the park’s fragile ecosystem.
Park Highlights
- Location: Mount Rainier, known for being Washington’s highest peak and the most glaciated in the contiguous United States.
- Trails: Over 260 miles of trails available for exploration, catering to both families and seasoned hikers.
Reservation Details
- System Function: The reservation system is particularly aimed at controlling the number of visitors in the Sunrise Corridor from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Each timed entry is valid for one day, per vehicle, in addition to the fee or park pass required.
- Future Changes: Timed entry for the Paradise Corridor will be paused in 2025 due to ongoing construction and closures.
Next Steps for Visitors
Reservations will be necessary from July 11 to September 1, with specific advance booking windows set for July and August. Moreover, visitors can make last-minute reservations starting July 10 for the same days.
For weekends and holidays post-September 2, it’s mandatory to secure reservations for entry until mid-October.
