IndiGo Expands Long-Haul Operations with Two New Boeing 787-9 Aircraft
IndiGo enhances its international flight capabilities with the addition of two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners through a lease agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways.
IndiGo is significantly enhancing its long-haul capabilities by forming another formal agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways for the lease of two additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. This addition marks the fifth and sixth planes to join their fleet through this partnership and is slated to be operational by early 2026, focusing on long-haul routes from India.
This collaboration follows earlier agreements made this year, where IndiGo secured one Boeing 787-9 aircraft under a leasing arrangement, subsequently adding three more in quick succession. This brings the total number of wide-body aircraft available under this strategic partnership to six, one of which is already in use on IndiGo’s Delhi–Bangkok route as of March 1, 2025.
Pieter Elbers, the CEO of IndiGo, remarked, “We are pleased to deepen our partnership with Norse Atlantic Airways by signing our third agreement for the addition of two more Boeing 787-9 aircraft. This move reinforces our commitment to international growth and our customers, promising to introduce more options on long-haul routes. As we accelerate towards our vision of becoming a global airline by 2030, this partnership enables us to bolster our wide-body operations while staying rooted in our India-first approach.”
The lease’s initial term is six months, with the possibility of extending it up to 18 months, pending regulatory approvals. This ongoing momentum highlights IndiGo’s dedication to providing world-class travel experiences while opening up new global destinations for Indian travelers.
