Turkish Airlines Launches Direct Flight from Seville to Istanbul

Turkish Airlines is set to begin a new direct flight connecting Seville with Istanbul, enhancing travel opportunities for southern Spain.

Turkish Airlines is set to launch a new direct flight from Seville to Istanbul starting September 17. This route aims to strengthen connections between Andalusia and the Middle East, as well as with Asian markets, expanding opportunities for the region. The Tourism and International Development Counselor, Arturo Bernal, emphasized the “extraordinary opportunities” this route will present for Seville and Andalusia, highlighting the potential of the Turkish market and improved access for far-off markets currently lacking direct flights.

“Turkish Airlines operates the most destinations globally, and its presence is particularly noteworthy in countries with travelers who tend to spend more and stay longer,” said Bernal.

The launch of this connection results from discussions held in connectivity meetings involving the Andalusian Government, local institutions, Aena, Turespaña, and the Confederation of Businessmen of Andalusia (CEA). Bernal noted it as a “success of public-private collaboration” driving sustainable and quality tourism development.

José Luis Sanz, Mayor of Seville, called the new route “excellent news” for the city, noting that the link to Istanbul, one of the world’s major air hubs, reflects Seville’s growing appeal for both tourism and business. “Istanbul is a strategic gate to Asia and a global connection center,” Sanz added, also emphasizing the goal of enhancing Seville’s connectivity worldwide.

The new flight will operate daily year-round, marking a significant advance in Andalusia’s connectivity. In 2024, Istanbul Airport welcomed over 80 million passengers, while the link to Pegasus at Sabiha Gökçen Airport, operating in Seville, managed 41 million passengers, complementing air traffic. The 2023-2025 Air Connectivity Strategy for Andalusia aims to improve connectivity with the Middle East and the Gulf by 85% and to de-seasonalize the tourism offer. Turkish Airlines, already operating two daily flights between Istanbul and Málaga, reinforces its commitment to Andalusia by adding this new route through Seville.
