Birmingham Airport (BHX) has announced its Capital Investment plan, totaling £76.5 million over the next 12 months.
This plan reflects an investment of approximately £1.5 million each week as the airport prepares for continued growth after a record year for passenger numbers in 2024.
Key Projects to Enhance Passenger Experience
Major upcoming projects include:
- Expanded retail and hospitality offerings
- New lounges and terminal refurbishments
- Upgrades to the runway and maintenance facilities
- Increased baggage carousel capacity and new vehicle replacements
These improvements aim to enhance the airport experience by offering more space and options for passengers.
Ongoing Construction with Minimal Disruption
Construction efforts are already underway, with measures taken to minimize disruption. The airport will prioritize overnight works wherever possible to expedite project completion for passengers and partners alike.
Nick Barton, CEO of Birmingham Airport, stated:
“Last year, over 13 million passengers passed through our airport, but we anticipate an even busier year in 2025. With this significant investment, we aim to improve our operational efficiency and resilience while providing better facilities for our customers and staff alike.”
This announcement follows a recent £10 million project aimed at improving baggage handling capabilities and reconfiguring Immigration Halls for increased space. Birmingham Airport is committed to its ongoing capital plan, which includes asset replacement, capacity growth, and environmental enhancements.
