Tourism Drives Employment Growth in the Cordillera Region of the Philippines

The booming tourism industry is significantly increasing job opportunities in the Cordillera Administrative Region, as reported by the Philippine Statistics Authority.

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) indicates that the service sector exhibits the highest job vacancy rates in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). This trend correlates with a surge in tourism-related businesses that contribute considerably to the local economy.

Employment Growth in Services Sector

According to PSA reports, the services sector was the key growth driver for CAR in 2024, encompassing about 69.4% of the region’s total employment. Notably, services accounted for 68% of total employment in 2023, a significant increase from 47% in 2019.

Quote from Imelda Romanillos:
“This growth was mainly fueled by the rise in accommodation, food services, transportation, storage, and various service activities in the region.”

Vacancies now prominently feature roles such as service crew, accounts officer, and customer service assistant. The Philippine Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) also reported the allocation of approximately $10.2 million for skill development scholarships in the tourism sector.
