Expansion of Bacolod-Silay Airport Receives $3.6 Million Funding

Bacolod's local government secures additional funding for the airport's expansion amidst ongoing rehabilitation efforts.

Funding Details The local government of Bacolod in the Central Philippines welcomes an extra allocation of $3.6 million for expanding the Bacolod-Silay Airport. The funding was approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) while the $798,000 rehabilitation of the airport’s passenger terminal is underway.

The rehabilitation project aims to replace outdated components, with an expected completion date in December this year.

Bacolod city mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez expressed gratitude stating, “I thank CAAP for approving our request and allocating PHP205 million for the Bacolod-Silay Airport upgrade. This brings us closer to a safer, more efficient, and passenger-friendly airport for Bacolod and the rest of the province. We are committed to seeing these projects through for the benefit of our people.”

Benitez also indicated excitement for the airport’s upgrades, which will be implemented alongside the ongoing rehabilitation works and support from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA).

A Necessary Response

In a letter addressed to Benitez dated April 24, CAAP director-general Raul Del Rosario stated the additional funding responded to a request made by the mayor on February 25 for the improvement and renovation of the Bacolod-Silay Airport.

Part of the allocation will enhance the passenger terminal building to handle increased check-in and pre-departure areas to meet growing passenger demand. The remaining funds will be used to widen the access road to the fire station building.
