Banyan Group Unveils 2024 Sustainability Initiatives

Banyan Group has published its 2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting significant progress in environmental and community initiatives.

Banyan Group, known for its commitment to sustainable operations, has released its 2024 Sustainability Report titled One Banyan, One Sustainable Future. This 19th edition outlines advancements in key environmental, social, and economic areas, solidifying sustainability as a core business foundation.

Key Progress in 2024:

  • Accelerating Decarbonisation and Energy Transition: Investments in energy-efficient infrastructure and renewable energy led to a 5.7% reduction in emissions intensity per occupied room compared to 2023.
  • Increasing Waste Management Initiatives: Enhanced waste reduction, recycling, and repurposing activities diverted 28% of total waste from landfills, a five-point improvement from the last year.
  • Upholding Water Stewardship: The Group improved water efficiency per occupied room by 5.1% through proactive leak detection and water conservation strategies.
  • Championing Marine Conservation: The expansion of the Marine Lab in the Maldives and the Coral Reef Restoration Project reinforced their commitment to environmental sustainability in collaboration with the China Environmental Protection Foundation.
  • Supporting Local Communities: Their Seedlings Programme nurtured 93 individuals and offered 2,515 internships while expanding engagement with 306 artisan communities.
  • Driving Change with Greater Good Grants: To mark Banyan Group’s 30th anniversary, the foundation funded 30 projects, focusing on long-term social and environmental benefits for communities where their operations are based.

Ho Ren Yung, the deputy CEO, emphasized that “Sustainability is a cornerstone of Banyan Group’s purpose, and our journey will continue to evolve as we look to scale increasingly impactful practices in the upcoming years with more ambitious climate action, deeper community engagement, and greater support for our associates to take action.”
