Spain's Tourism Achieves Record Levels in March 2025

Spain reports significant growth in international tourism, showcasing a strong recovery during the month of March.

March has marked a notable recovery in international tourism in Spain, with consistent growth in travelers from various markets. According to the latest reports from Turespaña, approximately 8 million international passengers arrived at Spanish airports in March, reflecting a 5.7% increase compared to the same month last year.

From January to March, the country hosted over 21 million international tourists, representing a 6.4% rise from the same period in 2024, reaffirming a positive trend in visitor arrivals this year.

Particularly striking is the growth of travelers from Italy, which saw an impressive 19% increase compared to 2024, making Italy the third largest source market after the United Kingdom and Germany. Additionally, countries like China, Canada, Gulf countries, and Ibero-American nations continue to show positive developments, demonstrating the government’s strategy to diversify markets.

In terms of traditional markets, the United Kingdom contributed approximately 1.6 million tourists, accounting for 20% of the total arrivals and growing by 2.3% from the previous year. Notably, the Canary Islands were the most favored destination, attracting 35.7% of British visitors. Germany also exhibited an increase of 2.9%, with over 1.1 million travelers in March, primarily directed to the Canary Islands, Valencia, and Catalonia.

More than 853,000 tourists arrived from Italy, marking a significant 19% increase, particularly benefiting Valencia and the Basque Country, which both experienced over 40% growth. French-speaking countries contributed over 583,000 tourists, growing by 6.8%, with Catalonia and Madrid being the preferred destinations. Dutch travelers, increasing by 5.9%, exceeded 386,000 in March, highlighting the allure of Valencia, Andalusia, and Catalonia.

Among the autonomous communities, Madrid led in arrivals with 26.7%, followed by Catalonia and Valencia, which both saw a 17.2% increase in their tourism inflows in March. Madrid-Barajas airport was the busiest, recording 2.1 million passengers, followed by Barcelona and Málaga, which also noted significant increases.

These figures reflect a solid recovery and market diversification that position Spain as one of Europe’s favorite destinations for international tourism in 2025.
