Goa's Government Enforces Shack Policy Compliance

The Goa Tourism Department imposes strict penalties for violations of its shack policy, highlighting its commitment to maintaining regulations within the tourism sector.

The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, has taken strict measures against a violation of the Goa State Shack Policy 2023-26. According to a report from the Mandrem Police Inspector on January 27, 2025, it was established that Manuel Espritosanto Fernandes, the allottee of Shack No. 4 at Arambol Beach, had sublet the beach shack, breaching Clause 20 of the policy.

In response to this violation, the Department imposed a penalty of ₹25,00,000 and confiscated the security deposit previously paid to the Government Treasury. Additionally, the shack license issue to Fernandes has been canceled, and the shack must be demolished within seven days of the notification. If not complied with, the Department will oversee the demolition at the allottee’s expense, which will be recovered as arrears.

Furthermore, Manuel Espritosanto Fernandes has been permanently blacklisted and is barred from participating in any future shack allotment processes under this policy.

The Department of Tourism reaffirms its dedication to ensuring compliance and maintaining the integrity of the tourism sector in Goa.
