Successful Conclusion of the Travel & Tourism Sustainability Conclave

The inaugural India Travel & Tourism Sustainability Conclave concluded successfully, featuring significant discussions on sustainable practices in the industry.

The inaugural India Travel & Tourism Sustainability Conclave, organized by MakeMyTrip Foundation and the World Travel & Tourism Council India Initiative (WTTCII), was successfully held in New Delhi. It gathered over 30 influential figures from the government, industry, and civil society.

Inaugurated by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of Tourism & Culture, the event focused on establishing a unified sustainability agenda for India’s travel & tourism sector. Discussions covered hospitality, aviation, mobility, climate action, and responsible tourism.

One of the key highlights was the launch of the Sustainable Hospitality Handbook, developed by the Hotel Association of India (HAI) in collaboration with MakeMyTrip. This handbook aims to provide a practical framework for hotels to adopt environmentally responsible practices related to energy, water, waste, and community impact.

The conference concluded with commitments from the MakeMyTrip Foundation and WTTCII to develop a report on sustainable travel & tourism in India, aimed at outlining future actions based on insights shared during the conclave.

In his address, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat emphasized, “We need more platforms that foster meaningful dialogue about sustainability in tourism. I commend the MakeMyTrip Foundation and WTTCII for taking the initiative to facilitate these conversations.”

Deep Kalra, Chair of WTTC India Chapter, stressed the importance of integrating sustainability into the core of business growth in the sector, stating, “Sustainability must be a central concern as we envision the future of our travel industry.”

The event highlighted a shared consensus: sustainability is no longer an optional discussion but a fundamental priority for the evolution of the travel and tourism sector in India.
