IndiGo Claims Brief Title of 'World's Most Valuable Airline'

IndiGo registered a significant milestone in the aviation sector by momentarily becoming the most highly valued airline globally.

IndiGo has achieved a remarkable milestone in the aviation industry as it briefly became the most valuable airline worldwide, with its market valuation reaching INR 2 lakh crore (approximately USD 23.3 billion). This exceptional performance positions IndiGo ahead of industry leaders like Delta Airlines and Ryanair, reflecting a significant achievement for the low-cost Indian carrier.

The stock price of IndiGo has surged by 13% in 2025 thus far, despite a general decline in the broader market, as the Nifty index has dropped by 6% this year.

IndiGo commands a dominant 62% market share in India’s aviation sector. The airline’s enhanced financial results have been a vital component in fostering investor trust. Despite reporting a net loss of ₹987 crore in Q2FY25, analysts remain positive about the airline’s future prospects. Predictions for Q4FY25 suggest a possible profit after tax (PAT) of INR 2,300 crore, driven by advantageous pricing, effective operations, and manageable crude oil costs. ICICI Securities emphasizes IndiGo’s competitive cost structure, solid order book, and robust balance sheet as key advantages.

The airline is on track to further expand its fleet, targeting a double-digit increase in Available Seat Kilometers (ASK) for FY26. Currently, of the 439 aircraft, 50 are not operational, with plans to add around 50 more by FY26, demonstrating IndiGo’s commitment to increase capacity while keeping operational efficiencies high.
