Málaga Projects a Hotel Occupancy Rate of 77.93% for This Holy Week

The Costa del Sol anticipates a hotel occupancy decrease during the upcoming Holy Week compared to 2023, while still seeing growth from last year.

The Costa del Sol’s Hotel Business Association (AEHCOS) has shared its forecasts for this year’s Holy Week, predicting a hotel occupancy rate of 77.93%. This figure marks a decline of nearly 7 percentage points compared to the 84.23% achieved in 2023, although it signifies an increase from the 75.98% recorded in 2024.

Initial estimates had already predicted a 77.22% occupancy, indicating that expectations are being met. José Luque, the president of AEHCOS, has noted that while the forecasts are encouraging compared to last year, they are still far from the results seen in 2023. “This is somewhat concerning at first glance, as occupancy figures for March, which closed at 72.91%, are significantly lower than the same month last year,” Luque commented.

For the first Holy Week period, from April 16 to 20, an occupancy rate of 81.63% is expected, down from the initially projected 83.14%, but higher than the 69% from 2024. In the broader period from April 11 to 21, occupancy is anticipated at 77.93%, similar to the initial estimate of 77.22%.

During the first period, Mijas leads the expectations with a 87.47% occupancy rate, followed by Frigiliana-Torrox (85%), Benalmádena (84.34%), Axarquía (82.02%), and Marbella (75.86%). For the period from April 11 to 21, Benalmádena ranks first with 84.85%, followed by Frigiliana-Torrox (83%) and Axarquía (82.02%). Mijas and Marbella occupy the fourth and fifth places with forecasted occupancies of 76.05% and 69.55%, respectively.

The uncertainty surrounding the weather this year could impact last-minute demand, which will be crucial for determining the final occupancy data. Despite the challenges, the Costa del Sol remains an attractive destination for tourists this Holy Week.
