
RTA Awards Contract for New Bridges Linking Dubai Islands with Bur Dubai
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has initiated a project to enhance infrastructure by linking Dubai Islands with Bur Dubai through newly constructed bridges. This development aims to improve traffic flow and accommodate growth in urban demands.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a contract to construct new bridges connecting Dubai Islands to Bur Dubai. This initiative is aligned with the leadership’s vision for enhancing Dubai’s infrastructure and is in accordance with an agreement on traffic solutions between RTA and Dubai Holding.
Key Project Details
Objective: The project focuses on developing infrastructure to meet the needs of urban expansion and enhance traffic management across the area.
Cost: The project includes a bridge that will measure 1,425 meters in length, featuring four lanes in either direction, with an estimated budget of AED 786 million.
Construction Features:
- The bridge will be positioned over Dubai Creek, situated between Infinity Bridge and the Port Rashid development area.
- It is designed to accommodate a capacity of 16,000 vehicles per hour.
- The bridge will rise to a height of 18.5 meters above the creek’s surface.
- It will also include dedicated pathways for pedestrians and cyclists, ensuring connectivity and convenience.
Statistical Impact: The development is expected to drastically reduce travel time in the area from 104 minutes to 16 minutes, benefiting approximately one million individuals and saving an estimated AED 45 billion over a span of 20 years.
