The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) expressed optimism about Air Canada’s new direct flights from Vancouver to Manila, anticipating a significant enhancement in both leisure and business tourism.
Passengers on the inaugural flight landed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on April 3rd, greeted with local performances, leis, and tokens. Air Canada will initially offer three nonstop flights weekly on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, expanding to four flights starting in May.
This new direct route reduces travel time from the previous 20 hours to just 12 to 14 hours. Rocky Lo, Air Canada’s managing director, highlighted the growing market for Canadian aviation in the Philippines, stating, “The flight has solidified Air Canada’s position as the North American airline serving the most nonstop destinations in this region, supporting Canada’s Inter-Pacific strategy.”
Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco noted, “This nonstop flight significantly boosts leisure and business tourism, contributing directly to local economies and enhancing community livelihoods.” She also emphasized Canada’s substantial role in Philippine tourism.
Ambassador David Hartman remarked on the importance of this route for fostering trade and tourism, stating, “This flight reflects the deep ties between our nations and opens new opportunities for cultural exchanges and economic growth.”
