Finnair Leads European Airlines in Japan Connections
Finnair, the Finnish flag-carrier, has successfully reclaimed its position as the leading European airline serving Japan this summer, reinforcing its dedication to the region.
Notably recognized for its strong connectivity between Europe and East Asia, Finnair’s new summer schedule includes 25 weekly flights from its primary hub in Helsinki to Japan, outpacing all other European airlines.
This achievement is significant as it marks the first time Finnair has held this title since before the pandemic, as the airline continues to expand its operations within Japan, part of its extensive 40-year history in the market.
Finnair will be servicing four key destinations this summer: Tokyo-Haneda, Tokyo-Narita, Osaka, and Nagoya.
Anssi Partanen, Finnair’s market director in Europe, expressed, “As the seasons change, we have a spring in our step here at Finnair, as we once again take home the title of largest European airline to Japan. For over 40 years, we have connected Europe with Japan, so we are proud to now offer 25 weekly flights this summer, connecting Helsinki with the cities of Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya. From connecting families and friends and driving tourism, to deepening business ties, our routes to Japan have always been extremely popular, and they remain a key part of Finnair’s DNA.”
Expansion of Flights to a Popular Destination
In addition to its daily services to both Tokyo-Haneda and Tokyo-Narita, Finnair has increased its flight offerings to Osaka to a daily frequency, up from five flights per week last summer. This adjustment aims to elevate Osaka’s global profile, especially as the city prepares for the World Expo 2025.
Moreover, the airline’s new long-haul route to Nagoya benefits from increased flights, doubling its weekly services from two to four.
The launch of the summer schedule aligns perfectly with Japan’s iconic Sakura or cherry blossom season, drawing travelers from around the world eager to experience the country’s stunning natural beauty. To commemorate this season, cabin crews on Tokyo-bound flights will don traditional yukatas, designed by Finnish fashion house Marimekko, adding a colorful touch to their service.
Beyond Japan, Finnair provides connections to major Asian cities including Bangkok, Delhi, Doha, Hong Kong, Phuket, Seoul, Shanghai, and Singapore.
The airline ensures efficient connections, allowing travelers to switch between flights in Helsinki with layovers as short as 40 minutes, as all flights operate from the same terminal.
