Choose Chicago has named Kristen Reynolds, a respected leader in the travel and tourism sector, as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective May 5. Reynolds, who previously served as President and CEO of Discover Long Island, is known for her impactful contributions that enhanced the visitor economy in the region.

“Kristen Reynolds is a proven leader in the tourism industry, and we welcome her to Chicago,” Mayor Brandon Johnson stated. “With major global events approaching and tourism records continually being broken, Kristen’s leadership will be crucial for strengthening Chicago’s status as a premier destination for tourists, conventions, and business investments.”

Chicago’s tourism sector significantly contributes to the city’s economy, and the selection of Reynolds underscores a strong commitment to growth and innovation.

“Illinois is at the center of everything and offers some of the most varied and engaging opportunities of any state in the country,” expressed Governor JB Pritzker. “I look forward to collaborating with Kristen and Choose Chicago to share that message, encourage visits to Chicago, and demonstrate to businesses why this is the ideal location for operations.”

Reynolds arrives with 27 years of experience in destination marketing, strategic partnerships, and tourism advocacy. During her leadership at Discover Long Island, she not only boosted tourism revenue but also developed new initiatives for both leisure and business travel while enhancing regional economic development. She is a Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME) and serves on the Board of Directors for Destinations International and the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association.

Reynolds takes the reins at a critical time as Chicago continues to build on its record-breaking tourism success, having achieved historic hotel revenue and tax collections in 2024, while also being recognized by Condé Nast Traveler as the Best Big City in the U.S. for an unprecedented eighth consecutive year.

Rich Gamble, who held the interim CEO role during this transition, will assist Reynolds as she acclimatizes to her new position. “We are incredibly thankful for Rich’s support during this transitional period,” Eden added. “He has played an essential role for our organization and is a steadfast advocate for our city.”
