New Visa Regulations for Digital Nomads in New Zealand
New Zealand has announced relaxed visa regulations targeting digital nomads, aiming to stimulate inbound tourism.
Immigration New Zealand has announced that it has relaxed visa requirements specifically for digital nomads to promote inbound tourism.
The new measure primarily targets individuals who wish to travel while working remotely. With the updated regulations, digital nomads will be allowed to work for offshore employers even while on holiday in New Zealand.
Digital nomads can stay in the country for up to 90 days under these new rules, though they will have to pay a resident’s tax if they decide to extend their stay.
New Zealand joins other countries like Japan and South Korea in offering revised visa programs for digital nomads since international travel resumed following the pandemic.
A necessary measure
Immigration Minister Erica Stanford said: “We welcome visitors of all types to New Zealand and in this particular announcement, those who are able to work as digital nomads here on our shores.”
She also mentioned that the change aims to encourage visitors to prolong their stays, which would have a positive impact on the economy.
The adjustments will apply to all visitor visas, including tourists visiting family, partners, and guardians.
It is crucial to note that only remote work based overseas is permitted under these modified conditions. Travelers requiring full-time residency in New Zealand must secure specific visas.
