Tourism Malaysia Celebrates British Airways’ Direct Flights to Kuala Lumpur

Tourism Malaysia has hailed the reinstatement of British Airways’ flights from London to Kuala Lumpur, as the inaugural flight took off from London Heathrow Airport today, April 1.

With daily service utilizing a state-of-the-art 787-9 Dreamliner, UK travelers can now effortlessly access Malaysia, with return fares starting at £574. This improved connectivity allows for greater exploration of Kuala Lumpur and its surroundings.

Tourism Malaysia’s London director, Sulaiman Suip, stated:

“The UK is a key market for Malaysia, and we are thrilled to see British Airways returning to Kuala Lumpur with direct flights from London Heathrow. This enhanced connectivity is especially significant as we approach Visit Malaysia Year 2026, providing UK travelers with even more convenient access to Malaysia’s vibrant cities, breathtaking landscapes, and rich cultural experiences. As we continue to grow our presence in the UK market, we look forward to welcoming more travelers to explore Malaysia’s unique offerings and diverse attractions.”

A Timely Reinstatement

The timing of British Airways’ route return is particularly crucial, aligning with Malaysia’s preparations for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026), aimed at attracting 35.6 million international visitors and generating RM147.1 billion in tourism income.

The UK remains one of Malaysia’s largest sources of tourism within Europe, and the introduction of this direct route enhances Malaysia’s appeal to British travelers, who increasingly seek meaningful and experiential vacations.

Additionally, Kuala Lumpur continues to be recognized as a premier travel destination, currently ranking 2nd in Tripadvisor’s Top Trending Destinations for 2025. The city, blending modernity with tradition, offers world-class attractions, a vibrant culinary landscape, and iconic landmarks such as the Petronas Towers. Kuala Lumpur’s cosmopolitan vibrancy and rich cultural heritage make it an ideal location for travelers seeking both adventure and tranquility.
