Air Canada, Canada’s flag carrier, is expanding its transatlantic network with a new route connecting Edinburgh and Montreal. The service will begin on June 27, 2025, and is notable as the only direct flight from Scotland to Canada’s second-largest city.
This new service aims to enhance trade and cultural connections, with a notable population of over 4.3 million Canadians with Scottish heritage and more than 1,380 Canadian students currently enrolled in Scottish universities.
Beginning June 27, flights will operate three times weekly, and travelers can enjoy the features of Air Canada’s 737 MAX 8 aircraft, which include 16 premium economy seats and 153 in economy with personal screens.
During the summer season, flights from Edinburgh will depart on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with a quick journey of just over seven hours to reach Montreal.
On the return trip, flights leave Montreal on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
Margaret Skinner, Senior Director Sales EMEAI of Air Canada, expressed excitement about this expansion: “Edinburgh has always held significant importance for Air Canada due to the robust business, tourism, and cultural connections shared between Scotland and Canada.”
Gordon Dewar of Edinburgh Airport also welcomed the announcement, emphasizing the high demand for direct routes between Scotland and Canada: “This addition is a big vote of confidence in Edinburgh’s market.”
