Mandai Wildlife Group Sees Nearly a Thousand Newborns in 2024

The Mandai Wildlife Group celebrates a significant spike in animal births, marking a successful year for wildlife conservation efforts.

Celebrating New Wildlife Births at Mandai

The Mandai Wildlife Reserve welcomed 998 new animals from 143 species in 2024, surpassing the previous year’s record. This includes endangered species like the woylie and the giant anteater.

Dr. Cheng Wen-Haur, Deputy CEO and Chief Life Sciences Officer, remarked:

“Every birth in our parks reflects the dedication of our animal care and veterinary teams, as well as the success of international breeding collaborations. With each new arrival, we reinforce our commitment to maintaining sustainable populations in our parks and contributing to long-term conservation efforts.”

Notable births included new meerkat pups and a proboscis monkey named Putri. In the realm of reptiles, the endangered golden mantella reached a breeding success milestone with 31 hatchlings.

Highlights from Different Areas

  • Singapore Zoo celebrated the births of five slender-tailed meerkat pups, twins, and triplets.
  • Night Safari welcomed a male woylie, bringing the total to five endangered joeys born since 2021.
  • River Wonders introduced a giant anteater pup named Solana and a West Indian manatee calf.
  • Bird Paradise reported the successful hatchings of various high conservation value species, including gentoo penguins.

In total, the Mandai Wildlife Group actively participates in over 190 breeding programs, emphasizing their role in global conservation.
