Reviewing Qatar Airways' A320 Business Class Experience

A detailed review of the business class service on Qatar Airways' A320, highlighting the seating comfort, in-flight service, and overall experience.

As a traveler based in the US, when considering major Middle Eastern airlines, I envision lengthy flights aboard their large aircraft like the 777s and A380s. However, can these airlines offer a top-notch service on smaller single-aisle planes?

We explored this on a Qatar Airways A320 flight from Doha to Zanzibar, flying with the airline named by Skytrax as the best airline globally for 2024. During the six-hour voyage, we experienced the airline’s narrowbody business class seating and its medium-haul service style.

Qatar’s lounges provide excellent food and amenities; a separate article will delve into the lounges and the ground experience at their Doha mega-hub.

Despite the vast expanse of Hamad International Airport, Qatar’s recent operational growth sometimes means using remote stands, which can be less convenient but offer a unique view of the runway actions.

A Closer Look at the Seat

Approaching the Airbus A320 that would take us to Zanzibar, we noted Qatar’s distinct business class seat configurations for their A320 fleet. One features recliner seats found on many airlines, while the other has twelve lie-flat seats designed for longer journeys like this one.

The Service

Post take-off, a warm greeting from the flight attendant preceded the offering of a pre-departure drink. Remember, on Qatar Airways business class, it’s wise to review the menu early, as meal orders are taken before takeoff.

Conclusion

Though not as expansive as some competitors, the inflight entertainment system on this A320 provided sufficient options for entertainment during the flight. Overall, the experience on Qatar’s A320 business was comfortable and impressive for a medium-haul flight layout.

Once again, be mindful that a section of the A320 fleet comprises standard recliner seats, so consulting the seat map while booking is recommended.
