AirAsia to Expand with Over 30 New Routes in 2025
AirAsia is set to introduce more than 30 new routes in 2025, enhancing its connectivity across the region.
AirAsia Aviation Group is set to introduce more than 30 new routes in 2025 as it fully recovers, reinforcing Asean and domestic connectivity and solidifying its status as the leading low-cost carrier in the region.
Following the near completion of AirAsia’s acquisition by AirAsia X Berhad from Capital A Berhad, the integration of both short- and medium-haul airlines into a larger aviation group is anticipated to enhance operational synergies and strengthen the overall network.
In 2025, AirAsia will aim to enhance cost leadership, optimize its network through strategic frequency increases, and improve operational efficiency across key markets, including Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Cambodia. These initiatives are designed to accommodate growth in popular destinations such as India and China, while responding directly to evolving travel trends in Asean.
The network optimization process is projected to conclude by the second quarter of 2025, with frequency increases across high-demand routes set to commence during this period. Concurrently, the group will be exploring new routes to satisfy the rising demand for intra-Asia travel, influenced by more lenient visa initiatives in key markets.
Most recently, AirAsia Malaysia announced its new service to Australia, offering four weekly flights to Darwin starting June 27, 2025, making it the first airline in the region to provide direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Darwin. Additionally, AirAsia Indonesia celebrated its first flight from Bali to Darwin on March 22, 2025, enhancing Northern Territory’s ties with Asean.
Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, stated: “In 2025, as we return to full capacity, we’ll focus on balancing growth with profitability. Our network strategy will concentrate on strategic, demand-driven connectivity across Asia.” He further noted that the company is aiming for over seven million Fly-Thru guests this year and has reactivated 16 aircraft along with 14 new aircraft deliveries planned for 2025, ensuring sustainable growth.
