The Bahamas will be operational on selected dates: April 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, and 13, traversing along the picturesque 24-mile route between Pickering and Grosmont. Supported by the Bahamas Locomotive Society, this event gives a rare chance to enjoy the sights and sounds of a celebrated steam locomotive that has fascinated enthusiasts for decades.
Historical Significance
Built by the North British Locomotive Company in 1934, No. 45596 Bahamas belongs to the Jubilee Class, engineered by Sir William Stanier for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS). It was named in honor of the stunning Caribbean islands and served diligently across Britain’s railways before its preservation in the 1960s. Following an extensive restoration, it now graces heritage services, carrying forth its legacy.
