For the fifth consecutive year, Delta Airlines has been recognized by Fast Company as one of the Most Innovative Companies globally, ranking third in the Corporate Social Responsibility category for its substantial commitment to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

This recognition underscores Delta’s unwavering focus on innovating for a more sustainable future, particularly in its centennial year. As Amelia DeLuca, the Chief Sustainability Officer of Delta, noted:
“Sustainability is good for business, our people, and the planet. This acknowledgment is a testament to the hard work of Delta personnel who contribute to our goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.”
Previous Achievements: Last year, Delta was honored for introducing the first fast, free Wi-Fi connectivity in domestic flights, which is now widely available and expanding internationally.
Commitment to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)
Charlotte Lollar, Director of SAF at Delta, stated:
“Meaningful change doesn’t happen overnight. The steps we take today are crucial for ensuring the future of air travel. SAF represents a vital technology for decarbonizing aviation in both the short and medium term.”
Delta’s Strategic Initiatives in SAF Include:
- Signing agreements with multiple SAF producers to achieve a goal of 10% SAF usage by 2030.
- Founding and leading the Americans for Clean Aviation Fuels (ACAF) coalition.
- Partnering in the Minnesota SAF Hub for SAF production, including a commitment to purchase millions of gallons produced at the new blending facility.
With its cross-enterprise Carbon Council, Delta is enhancing operational efficiencies, saving over 44 million gallons of fuel last year, resulting in cost savings exceeding $100 million in jet fuel expenses.
In the pursuit of reaching net-zero aviation emissions, Delta has also engaged in partnerships with Airbus to innovate next-generation aviation technologies, emphasizing the future of sustainable flying operations.
