Cathay Cargo Terminal Secures SeMS Certification from IATA

Cathay Cargo Terminal marks a milestone by achieving IATA's SeMS certification, enhancing security in air cargo management.

Cathay Cargo Terminal’s Significant Achievement

Cathay Cargo Terminal has announced that it has become the first ground-handling organization in Asia to successfully obtain the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Security Management System (SeMS) certification, achieving the highest possible tier for a first-time SeMS certification.

IATA SeMS provides a structured framework for managing regulatory compliance, security risks, threats, and vulnerabilities effectively. Organizations adopting an SeMS approach focus on continuous improvements in security measures, emphasizing data-driven strategies.

Mark Watts, Chief Operating Officer of Cathay Cargo Terminal, stated:

“Security is foundational for any airport cargo terminal, and we are proud to be recognized by IATA for our strong commitment to all areas of security. Our recent implementation of AI to enhance intruder detection and unattended cargo detection, along with significant investments in cybersecurity, demonstrates our proactive approach to safeguarding our customers’ cargo and data.”

Nick Careen, IATA Senior Vice President for Operations, Safety and Security, remarked that achieving SeMS certification is a testament to Cathay Cargo Terminal’s commitment to proactive security management. He emphasized that this milestone not only benefits Cathay Cargo Terminal but also sets a benchmark for the entire aviation industry, showcasing the need for enhanced security measures.

The certification will be awarded formally at the IATA World Cargo Symposium in Dubai on April 15. Cathay Cargo Terminal is also recognized for its commitment to environmental standards and safety through various IATA certifications.
