Megaworld Hotels & Resorts Introduces 'Petals to Purpose'

A new initiative focusing on sustainability and celebrating cultural heritage in the Philippines.

As the world approaches Earth Hour 2025, Megaworld Hotels & Resorts (MHR) launches a special initiative named Petals to Purpose. This initiative emphasizes sustainability while honoring the cultural heritage of the Philippines through the sampaguita (Jasminum sambac), the national flower of the Philippines.

Guests staying at MHR’s hotels will have the opportunity to purchase a sampaguita seedling for PHP 60 until March 22nd. These seedlings will be planted in Bulacan in collaboration with Project PEARLS Foundation, a non-profit organization aimed at empowering underprivileged children and their families by providing them access to education, healthcare, and nutrition programs.

The seedlings can be ordered through online bookings, walk-ins, and at the hotel bars and restaurants. Each seedling will come with a personalized tag featuring the guest’s name, symbolizing their commitment to environmental conservation. MHR plans to carry out the planting activity, with updates provided online.

Loleth So, MHR’s Group Commercial Director, remarked about the initiative: “Small actions lead to big change. Petals to Purpose exemplifies destination stewardship in action by embracing sustainability, cultural heritage, and community collaboration. With the help of our guests, we aim to gather at least 3,000 sampaguita seedlings and plant them in our partner community. We envision a future where tourism coexists harmoniously with environmental responsibility. We invite everyone to be part of this transformative movement.

A Special Tribute to Mother Earth During the same period, MHR properties will offer a unique dessert designed with sustainability in mind. This no-bake dessert incorporates locally sourced ingredients, presenting an artistic edible terrarium and a touch of sampaguita to symbolize the brand’s service excellence. Guests who partake in the Petals to Purpose initiative will enjoy a special offer on this dessert.

On March 22nd, there will also be a storytelling session for children, focusing on the cultural significance of the sampaguita in Filipino traditions. These activities align MHR with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 13: Climate Action, SDG 15: Life on Land, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
