Ba Den Mountain to Be the Center of UN Vesak Day 2025 Events
The Ba Den Mountain in Tay Ninh, Vietnam is set to be the location for a major event where thousands of delegates will light candles and pray for global peace as part of the United Nations Day of Vesak 2025 this coming May.
Numerous meaningful activities are organized around the event, celebrating an important occasion within the Buddhist faith. A significant candlelight prayer ceremony will take place at the mountain’s summit, with over 2,000 delegates from 80 countries expected to attend.
This event is aligned with the Vesak 2025 theme: Unity and Inclusivity for Human Dignity: Buddhist Insights for World Peace and Sustainable Development.
Nguyen Lam Nhi Thuy, the deputy general director of Sun Group, expressed the honor of hosting this event:
“Hosting the Vesak 2025 delegation for the world peace candlelight prayer ceremony is a tremendous honour for the Ba Den Mountain tourist area. On May 8, we will also hold special ceremonies to welcome the delegation during this grand Buddhist event, including a bodhi tree planting ceremony and the enshrinement of Buddha relics for Buddhists and the public to pay homage.”
Among the rituals, paying homage to the Buddha’s relics during the Vesak festival holds immense spiritual significance, bestowing blessings upon participants.
Where the Essence of Peace Dwells
Most Venerable Phra Brahmapundit indicated that peace is a central theme of this year’s program, describing it as not only a mental state but also a key to social stability and environmental harmony. He stated:
“With Ba Den Mountain, I can feel the essence of ‘peace’ through the Buddhist spirit and the presence of the Maitreya Bodhisattva statue, a symbol of joy and serenity.”
He emphasized that the mountain represents a space for healing and tranquility, essential for fostering environmental and social progress.
