Air Astana Group Enhances Lithium Battery Transport Policies
New regulations implemented for safe transport of lithium batteries by Air Astana Group.
As of Thursday, March 13, the Air Astana Group has strengthened its regulations regarding the safe transport of lithium batteries and battery-powered devices during flights.
The Group’s existing policy requires that spare batteries, including power banks and electronic smoking devices, are only allowed in carry-on luggage.
If a passenger’s carry-on baggage needs to be checked, all spare batteries must be removed beforehand.
Additionally, under current regulations, the maximum allowable battery capacity is 100Wh. Batteries with a capacity between 100Wh and 160Wh can only be transported with prior airline approval, with a limit of two per passenger. Transporting batteries exceeding 160Wh is strictly prohibited, and each battery’s capacity will be verified in advance.
Transporting batteries without capacity markings or proper certification is also not permitted. For flight safety, lithium batteries, external batteries, and electronic smoking devices must be kept in hand luggage and stored on luggage racks in the cabin. Charging other devices using batteries, as well as charging the batteries themselves during the flight, is strictly prohibited.
The Group advises passengers to review the battery transport regulations posted on the official airline websites prior to their flights.
