Slovenia Launches Its Embassy in the Philippines

Slovenia has inaugurated its first embassy in the Philippines, marking a significant step in diplomatic relations.

The Slovenian government officially inaugurated its embassy in the Philippines on March 11. This marks not only the first Slovenian embassy in the country but also the first diplomatic mission established by Slovenia in Southeast Asia.

Although the embassy has been operational since May 10 of the previous year at the RCBC Plaza in Makati City, its consular services were limited during construction.

The embassy’s construction was finalized in time for the visit of Tanja Fajon, the Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, from March 10 to 12.

Fajon opened the embassy together with Maria Theresa Lazaro, the Philippine Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, and Smiljana Knez, the Slovenian Ambassador to the Philippines.

In a statement made on March 12, Fajon emphasized the importance of strong international partnerships in today’s dynamic environment. She remarked: “The Philippines, like Slovenia, is a strong advocate of multilateralism, respect for international law and human dignity.”

Fajon highlighted her hope that the embassy would not only bolster diplomatic ties between the two nations but also facilitate stronger collaboration in various sectors.
