Uzbekistan Adopts International Code for Tourist Protection

Uzbekistan becomes the 26th nation to join the International Code for the Protection of Tourists, reinforcing its commitment to tourism safety and standards.

Uzbekistan has officially joined the International Code for the Protection of Tourists (ICPT), now marking its position as the 26th country to adhere to this significant code of conduct intended to safeguard tourists’ rights and safety.

Uzbekistan joins ICPT

The ICPT, aims to provide a comprehensive framework to ensure the protection and security of travelers, particularly during critical situations, by outlining their rights and responsibilities as consumers. By embracing this code, Uzbekistan reaffirms its continuous commitment to enhancing the legal protections and guarantees for tourists while also working in collaboration with the UN Tourism to advance global tourism standards.

The Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, Aziz Abdukhakimov, expressed:

“Uzbekistan is committed to ensuring the highest standards of safety, security, and quality for all visitors to our country. The International Code for the Protection of Tourists not only enhances the rights and protections of travelers but also strengthens trust in Uzbekistan as a welcoming and reliable destination. Our alignment with these global principles will further support our vision of a modern, hospitable, and competitive tourism sector that benefits both visitors and local communities.”

Uzbekistan has been proactive in promoting international tourism standards. Notably, the nation played a critical role in establishing the Committee for the Development of an International Safe Tourism Code, and was unanimously elected Chair at its inaugural meeting in December 2024.

Alicia Gomez, from UN Tourism, noted:

“The global and interconnected nature of the tourism sector makes the harmonization of international standards even more vital. Both the ICPT and the future International Safe Tourism Code are invaluable tools in this endeavor.”
