Philippine Tourism Department Calls on Hollywood to Film on Its Shores
The Philippines promotes itself as a prime location for global filmmakers, highlighting its scenic beauty and cultural talent.
The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) has invited Hollywood filmmakers to shoot their projects in the Philippines.
Currently in the United States, tourism secretary Christina Frasco presented the country’s diverse landscapes and thriving local talent as appealing reasons for production companies.
An official statement from the DOT mentions that Frasco highlighted the pitch during a press event held at the Sunset Marquis Hotel in Los Angeles, noting the upcoming Manila International Film Festival.
Frasco emphasized the natural beauty of the Philippines, citing its 7,600 islands, pristine beaches, lush terrains, and vibrant city scenes as attractive filming locations.
Additionally, she pointed out that the nation’s proficiency in English and skilled professionals appeal to foreign film crews.
Frasco stated: “The Philippines is an English proficient country with a wealth of creative talent that can be hired for a local production film crew, as well as a robust ecosystem of filmmakers that are now invigorated because of the efforts of the government to bring everyone together to rally for filming in the Philippines.”
What’s in it for cineastes?
Among the incentives mentioned was new legislation signed by the government, such as the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises – Maximize Opportunities for Reinvigorating the Economy (CREATE MORE) Act to support the creative sectors.
Frasco added: “We also have the competitive advantage of a relatively lower cost of filming, from the cost of goods, cost of labor, and the like. And all of this is wrapped and enjoyed because of the diversity of offerings that the country has in terms of its culture, its heritage, its history, even its gastronomy.”
