The refreshed Terminal 5 at John F. Kennedy International Airport will feature a concourse inspired by the city parks and 40 new concessions, all expected to be completed by 2026.
JetBlue aims to infuse more of New York’s essence into Terminal 5. The airline, along with the airport and terminal manager Fraport USA, announced a new plan for Terminal 5 that includes updated designs and the addition of a total of 40 new concessions.
Terminal 5 Improvements Expected to be Complete by End of 2026
The transformation plan emphasizes visual elements from New York City, with features like greenery reminiscent of city parks, benches, concrete chess tables, and innovative lighting. It will also host an open area for pop-up activities, including performances. This setup will be complemented by an art collection featuring 30 pieces from New York artists.
Numerous new storefronts will be introduced, including 18 local food options. The concessions are set to begin opening throughout 2025, with the entire transformation planned to wrap up by the end of 2026.
“When it opened, Terminal 5 set a new standard for customer-focused airport design that reflected our mission of bringing humanity back to air travel,” said Marty St. George, president of JetBlue, in a press release. “This isn’t just about new dining and shopping—it’s about capturing the energy of New York in the terminal.”
“Esto no es solo sobre nuevas opciones de comida y compras, se trata de capturar la energía de Nueva York en el terminal.”
The redevelopment announcement is part of a $19 billion improvement initiative for JFK by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
