Insights from a live audience poll conducted during ITB Berlin by Sabre Corporation. The session, led by Scott Wilson, President of Sabre Hospitality, explored key trends in technology impacting the travel industry, focusing on AI adoption and sustainability.

Key Findings:

  1. Intermediaries in Travel Distribution: 72% believe that both direct and indirect distribution methods are essential, revealing the complexity of the travel landscape.
  2. Personalization Challenges: Opinions were divided on whether the industry effectively delivers personalized experiences, with 49% advocating for improvements.
  3. Urgent Need for AI Adoption: 65% stated that companies not utilizing AI risk losing competitive ground within three years.
  4. Sustainability Gap: 90% indicated that while travelers express a desire for sustainable options, they often prioritize cost over eco-friendliness.

“The results highlight the vital role of intermediaries in simplifying travel while underscoring the need for better personalization and swift AI adoption,” Wilson stated. “The industry must embed sustainability into core offerings rather than presenting it as an option.”

This discussion underscores ongoing tensions and opportunities as the travel industry grapples with technological advancement and changing consumer expectations.
