For Indian women, travel is no longer just a break from routine—it’s a gateway to new opportunities, celebrations, and self-discovery. Atlys, a leading visa processing platform, reports a remarkable 22% increase in international travel applications from Indian women over the past year, highlighting a significant shift in how women are embracing global exploration. From solo adventures to group getaways, this surge reflects a growing desire to celebrate milestones, pursue personal growth, and connect with diverse cultures.

The motivations behind this travel boom among women are diverse, reflected in modern aspirations. According to Atlys data, solo travel accounts for 20.6% of applications motivated by self-discovery and independence. Destinations known for safety, affordability, and cultural richness, like Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, and parts of Europe, are rising in popularity. Conversely, group travel comprises 35% of applications, often for celebrating milestones such as bachelorettes, birthdays, or career achievements, with vibrant locales like Dubai, Bali, Bangkok, Singapore, and Malaysia topping the list. Additionally, 28% of applications relate to experiential travel, encompassing international concerts, cooking or yoga retreats, and immersive cultural explorations.

Economically empowered women are a key driving force behind this travel boom, prioritizing travel that merges leisure with personal gain. Younger women, particularly those under 35, favor spontaneous adventures, while those aged 35 to 45 tend to opt for structured trips balancing work and family. Despite differences, there is a collective trend away from traditional sightseeing towards meaningful, culturally immersive experiences.
