Eurowings Boosts Flight Connectivity from Germany to Costa del Sol

Eurowings announces substantial increase in air connectivity to Costa del Sol amid growing optimism in the tourism sector.

In the context of growing optimism in the tourism sector, Arturo Bernal, the Counselor of Tourism and Andalucía Exterior, announced a significant increase in air connectivity to the Costa del Sol. During the inaugural day of the ITB in Berlin, Bernal met with representatives from the German airline Eurowings, which has decided to increase its flight offerings to Andalucía by 15% compared to the previous year.

This increase translates into nearly 60 weekly flights between Germany and Andalucía, including connections from six strategic airports: Düsseldorf, Berlin, Cologne, Stuttgart, Hamburg, and Hannover. The importance of these routes is crucial for reinforcing the connection between the Costa del Sol and one of its main international markets, which will allow for sustainable growth in tourist arrivals.

Michael Händel, Vice President of Network Management and Airport Relations at Eurowings, highlighted the “great proposal” the company is presenting for the upcoming summer season. In addition to existing routes to Málaga, two new flights are being added: one between Berlin and Jerez airport, and another from Düsseldorf to Seville. Händel expressed confidence that these new connections will achieve considerable success, with promising reservations.

Bernal positively assessed Eurowings’ commitment to the region and the diversification of markets represented by these new routes. During the meeting, opportunities at other Andalusian airports such as Almería, Granada-Jaén, and Córdoba were also discussed, potentially opening up new possibilities for tourism in the community.

This growth in flight offerings is in addition to last year’s increase, which saw 1.4 million air seats to Andalucía, an 18.5% rise compared to 2023. According to Bernal, airlines are aware of the unmet demand for direct flights to the region, and an 8% increase in the number of seats is expected for the first half of 2025. With these initiatives, the Costa del Sol positions itself as an increasingly accessible and attractive destination for German tourists, reinforcing its image as one of Europe’s main tourist spots.
