The Conventa Trade Fair remains a leading event in the meetings sector, held annually in Ljubljana, Slovenia, renowned for its focus on quality and sustainability.
Conventa Trade Fair
Since its inception in 2009, Conventa has attracted 3,799 buyers from 47 countries and 2,086 exhibitors, facilitating over 52,563 meetings. This year, the fair received 608 hosted buyer applications, but only 29.6% were accepted to maintain high engagement standards.
The fair’s commitment to sustainability aligns with Ljubljana’s recognition as the European Green Capital in 2016. Conventa integrates sustainability practices in its operations, helping establish a circular economy. Gorazd Čad, the co-founder, emphasized: “We don’t just talk about sustainability: we practise it, we walk the walk.”
Conventa introduced innovative sustainability actions including a Waste Weighing Station to manage event waste and Interactive Carbon Calculators to help attendees understand their carbon footprints.
In the educational realm, the Conventa 42° North forum showcased various organizations contributing green solutions. Keynote speaker Stéphanie Andre led discussions on sustainability at the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games.
Looking forward, the Slovenian Convention Bureau is developing a strategic plan for the MICE sector for 2025-2030, intending to refine the country’s offerings further. Ljubljana’s rapid infrastructure improvements, along with resuming British Airways flights, underscore its commitment as a multi-modal mobility hub, reinforcing its appeal as a prime destination for meetings and conventions.
