Saudi Arabia Experiences 131% Increase in Travel Bookings Ahead of Ramadan

Travel bookings in Saudi Arabia have surged significantly as Ramadan approaches, indicating a strong demand for travel during this religious period.

As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, Wego reveals insights into the travel habits of Saudi travelers during this significant season. The data shows a notable 131.69% jump in travel bookings among Saudi residents, indicating an increased interest in both domestic and international travel as Ramadan nears.

Key Insights into Ramadan Travel

  • Domestic Preferences: Popular cities for local travel include Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dammam.
  • Top International Destinations: Egypt, India, and Pakistan are favored by Saudi travelers because of strong cultural connections.

Luxury and Comfort in Travel Choices

Travelers are leaning toward comfort, with over half of accommodation bookings recorded in luxury hotels. This highlights the focus on high-end experiences during Ramadan, especially for umrah ceremonies, which are central to the observance.

Solo Travel Trends

Notably, there’s a rising trend in solo travel among Saudi nationals, with over three-quarters of bookings for Ramadan trips in 2024 made by individuals traveling alone.

Mobile Reservations on the Rise

The shift to mobile in travel planning is evident, as 62% of travel bookings for Ramadan were conducted via the Wego app.

Mamoun Hmidan from Wego noted, “As Saudi travelers prepare for Ramadan and Eid, we are seeing a clear preference for effortless mobile-first travel planning, along with a strong inclination toward premium hospitality and performing Umrah.”
