Cathay Pacific Reports 37% Increase in Passenger Traffic for January 2025

Cathay Pacific sees significant growth in passenger numbers and traffic metrics in January 2025 compared to January 2024.

Cathay Pacific reported a noteworthy 37% increase in passenger traffic in January 2025 compared to January 2024. The Available Seat Kilometres (ASKs) grew by 30.9% and the load factor rose by 3.6 percentage points year-on-year.

Lavinia Lau, Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, remarked:

“The Cathay Group has got off to a strong start in 2025. Over the Lunar New Year travel peak, on January 25, Cathay Pacific and HK Express combined carried over 110,000 passengers, marking a new post-pandemic record for the number of passengers carried on a single day.”

Additionally, Cathay Pacific announced the resumption of direct flights to Rome starting on June 5, 2025. Meanwhile, HK Express launched its services to Sendai on January 17 and will soon offer flights to Nha Trang and Ishigaki.

January Traffic Highlights:

  • Cathay Pacific carried 2,352,242 passengers in January 2025, up 37% year-on-year.
  • The passenger load factor now stands at 86.4%.
  • HK Express also experienced growth, carrying over 667,000 passengers, which is a 46.1% increase compared to the same month last year.
