Asian Winter Games Boost Tourism in Longkou
The ninth Asian Winter Games has significantly increased tourist visits to Longkou's ski resorts.
Impact of Asian Winter Games on Longkou Tourism
A skiing spree fuelled in part by the ninth Asian Winter Games has led to an influx of travellers to the Chinese ski resort city of Longkou.
Numerous travellers are eager to try skiing and other winter sports or simply enjoy the mild weather of the region in late winter and early spring. Prior to the Winter Games, the influx of travellers to Longkou would taper off at the end of the Spring Festival holiday; however, sporting enthusiasts now continue to flock to the eastern Chinese city.
Compared to the same period last year, the number of travellers to this popular ski resort town has increased by 30 percent in 2025, with its coaches busy every day.
Accessible Skiing Options
Setting out from Ji’nan, the capital of Shandong Province, it takes less than two hours for travellers to reach Longkou by high-speed train and experience the joy of skiing in the resort. Enthusiasts can now enjoy skiing at Nanshan International Ski Resort rather than travelling to Harbin, known as China’s winter wonderland.
To cater to the growing number of visitors, Nanshan International Ski Resort has engaged additional coaches during winter holidays and introduced new instructors, which not only creates job opportunities but also enhances the experience for newcomers. Meanwhile, local restaurants around the ski resorts in Longkou are experiencing a considerable increase in customer flow.
From a niche sport, skiing is now emerging as a favorite activity for many, injecting new energy into tourism development in Longkou.
