Air India and Lufthansa Enhance Codeshare Partnership

Air India has expanded its codeshare agreement with Lufthansa, introducing 60 new routes across India and Europe.

Air India and Lufthansa Group have agreed to strengthen their longstanding codeshare partnership, which sees Air India enter into a new codeshare agreement with Austrian Airlines, in addition to expanding existing agreements between Air India, Lufthansa, and Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS).

“Our goal is to enable our customers to travel from any corner of the world to another via Air India and its partner airlines. The expansion of our partnership with Lufthansa Group is a step in that direction…”
— Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer, Air India

This expanded partnership adds 60 new codeshare routes across 12 Indian and 26 European cities, significantly boosting flight options and connectivity.

Under this new agreement, Air India will now offer a total of 26 destinations across Europe and 3 in the Americas from its European gateways, which include Frankfurt, Vienna, and Zurich.

Key Highlights:

  1. Lufthansa Routes through Frankfurt: Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, and more.
  2. SWISS Routes through Zurich: Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, and others.
  3. Austrian Airlines Routes through Vienna: Amsterdam, Barcelona, and additional destinations.

Additionally, Lufthansa Group customers can now connect to Air India’s domestic services across 15 points within India, including major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai. This expansion aims to enhance flexibility and choice for travelers.

Both airlines are members of Star Alliance, allowing frequent flyers to maintain and redeem points on all four airlines’ networks. Sales for these codeshare flights will commence subject to regulatory approvals.
