Asia-Pacific Poised to Lead Global Aviation Market by 2025, Confirms OAG

The Asia-Pacific region is set to solidify its dominance in the global aviation market by 2025, with significant growth observed in both domestic and international sectors.

Latest Insights on Asia-Pacific Aviation Trends

Recent analysis by OAG has revealed that the Asia-Pacific (ASPAC) sector is on track to become the most competitive global aviation market by 2025, having exceeded 2019’s overall capacity by 0.5% in 2024. Both domestic and international travel sectors show remarkable recovery and growth.

Mayur Patel, OAG’s Head of Asia Pacific stated:

“As the Asia Pacific region continues to expand, the synergy of robust domestic recovery, dynamic international growth, and competitive strategic pricing makes it the world’s most vibrant and competitive aviation market.”

Key Findings from OAG’s Report:

  • Domestic markets have rebounded strongly, operating 4.7% above 2019 levels.
  • Chinese domestic capacity is 14% above its 2019 numbers, while India sees a 13% increase.
  • Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and China Eastern lead international seat capacity.

However, Japan lags behind its domestic capacity by 4% due to socio-economic challenges. Meanwhile, Indonesia is struggling with a supply chain issue that has left 27% of its aircraft not operational.

The ASPAC region has achieved 594.8 million seats internationally, making it the second-largest aviation market worldwide, capturing 25% of the global market despite being below pre-pandemic levels.

With airlines in the region lowering ticket prices significantly due to increased capacity and competition, the future of aviation in Asia-Pacific appears promising.
