The Caribbean Emerges as the Dream Destination for Spanish Cruise Travelers in 2025
A recent study highlights the Caribbean as the top cruise destination desired by Spaniards, with significant trends in travel preferences and economic implications for the cruise sector.
The Caribbean is solidifying its status as the preferred destination for Spaniards wishing to embark on a cruise, as stated in the study titled “III Radiografía del viajero actual: preferencias y su relación con los cruceros de MSC Cruceros.” With 70% of respondents dreaming of traveling to this paradise, the Caribbean outshines other popular destinations like Alaska, the United Arab Emirates, and the Red Sea.
Despite this longing, vacation procrastination has risen, with 45.7% of Spaniards admitting to having postponed their trips in the past year, up from 40% at the beginning of 2023. The main reasons for delaying these trips include economic barriers (29.9%) and organizational difficulties (27.5%). Interest in cruises remains strong, particularly among young people aged 25 to 39, where 77.7% express willingness to experience a Caribbean cruise. In 2024, the Mediterranean was the most chosen destination (68.2%), but the Caribbean is expected to become the big dream for Spanish travelers in 2025.
Fernando Pacheco, General Director of MSC Cruises in Spain, states that the flexibility and comfort offered by cruises are decisive factors for travelers. MSC Cruises operates five ships sailing the Caribbean, with itineraries including destinations such as Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas, which houses the exclusive Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. Spring emerges as the favorite time to enjoy a Caribbean cruise, chosen by 35.2% of travelers. While saving money continues to be the primary motivation for selecting the low season, factors such as the cruising experience and the variety of onboard services are also gaining significance.
The satisfaction of Spanish cruise passengers reached record figures in 2024, with 80% of travelers willing to repeat the experience. This year, the figure is expected to rise to 86%. Cruise passengers typically spend between €50 and €100 on average in local shops and restaurants, reflecting the positive economic impact of cruises on the communities they visit. With the growing popularity of the Caribbean and MSC Cruises’ commitment to providing an all-encompassing experience, 2025 promises to be a fruitful year for cruise enthusiasts in Spain.
