Qatar’s tourism sector is seeing significant growth, with the Qatar Stopover program drawing over 10,500 visitors just in January, a remarkable 165% increase year-over-year from 2023.
According to Discover Qatar, this surge indicates the country’s growing reputation as a leading tourist destination, driven by strategic partnerships with airlines and an increased interest in short-term stays. Since its relaunch in August 2021, the program has led to over 100,000 hotel nights reserved, marking a doubling of last year’s numbers.
This initiative owes much of its success to Qatar Airways Holidays, which has contributed to over a third of the bookings. The airline’s comprehensive marketing strategies have effectively attracted travelers from key markets such as the USA, UK, Australia, Germany, and the Netherlands.
Additionally, 20% of travelers applied Avios points from Qatar Airways’ loyalty program to secure their stopovers, further enhancing engagement. Support from travel markets in Australia, South Africa, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and New Zealand has been pivotal in expanding the program’s international reach.
Boosted by the recognition of Hamad International Airport as the World’s Best Airport 2024 by Skytrax International, Qatar’s tourism initiatives focus on promoting its rich cultural heritage, modern architecture, and luxury tourism. The stopover program is anticipated to be a key factor in establishing Qatar as a premier travel hub.
