Iberia Updates Loyalty Scheme to Spend-Based Model

Iberia is restructuring its loyalty program to focus on spending rather than flight distance, similar to British Airways.

Iberia’s loyalty program is set to evolve into Club Iberia Plus, a spend-based system. This program will begin on April 1, 2025, allowing loyal customers to earn Elite Points based on their spending rather than just the distance traveled.

Aiming to enhance customer experience, the new structure will encompass benefits such as:

  1. Earning points on fare types: Earn based on the fare chosen - Optimal, Comfort, or Flexible.
  2. Eligibility through spending: Customers can achieve elite status by accumulating points or completing flights.
  3. Third loyalty tier: The introduction of the Platino Prime tier is dedicated to those who spend more, offering significant rewards.

Beatriz Guillén stated, “We believe that this is a fairer and more transparent way of rewarding our most loyal customers.”

Moreover, this change mirrors a similar initiative by British Airways, signaling a shift across IAG airlines towards rewarding what customers spend, rather than how far they fly.
