Airlines Expand Offerings for the Summer 2025 Season in Spain

A significant increase in available seats signals enhanced travel options for summer 2025.

The airlines have announced their schedule for the summer 2025 season at Aena’s network of airports in Spain, with a total of 246.8 million seats available for departures and arrivals. This season will begin on March 30, 2025, and extend until October 25, 2025. This figure represents a 1.5% increase compared to the same season in 2024, and a significant 6.5% growth relative to the number of seats actually operated at the end of the previous season.

In terms of operations, nearly 1.4 million landings and takeoffs are scheduled, reflecting a 1.2% increase compared to summer operations of 2024 and 4.8% more than the flights actually operated in 2024. During this period, the airlines plan to operate 3,074 routes to 349 destinations in 84 countries from Spanish airports.

The airports with the highest seat availability are Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with 48 million seats scheduled (0.7% less than in 2024 but 3% more than what was finally operated), and Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, offering 42.9 million (an increase of 1.6% compared to 2024 and 8% more than what was operated last year). Other significant airports include Palma de Mallorca, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Alicante-Elche, Gran Canaria, and Ibiza, all with noteworthy increases in their offerings.

Regarding geographic markets, Asia-Pacific leads growth with a 38.9% increase in seat scheduling, followed by North America (8.7%), Latin America (6.1%), Africa (4.9%), and both Europe and Middle East (each with 1.2%). Comparing with the end of the summer 2024 season, Asia-Pacific also stands out with a 46% increase.

National routes concentrate the highest number of scheduled seats, followed by destinations in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France, and the Netherlands. However, it is important to note that the scheduling of seats and movements is subject to changes by the airlines. With this increase in offerings, the summer 2025 season is expected to provide travelers with more options and flexibility for planning their vacations and business trips.
