Oman Strengthens Its Tourism Cooperation with Spain
The Sultanate of Oman's Ministry of Heritage and Tourism concludes its first successful participation at FITUR.
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of the Sultanate of Oman has concluded its first participation at FITUR, the international tourism fair held in Madrid from January 22 to 26, with highly positive results. Our presence reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to the Spanish market, considered strategic for growth in the upcoming years.
During the fair, the Omani delegation held numerous meetings with key companies in the tourism sector to establish and strengthen alliances, promote the country in Spain, and share knowledge and information. The warm reception and interest shown by the Spanish market confirm the significant growth opportunities for Oman in the region, aligned with the ambitious Oman Vision 2040 plan.
This strategic plan aims to position Oman as a key global tourist destination, focusing on vital sectors such as tourism, logistics, green energy, and manufacturing. Oman is concentrating on diversifying its economy through sustainable tourism and the development of high-quality infrastructure to ensure balanced growth that respects the environment. In the tourism sector, the goal is for it to represent 10% of the country’s economy by 2040. Regarding the Spanish market, Oman anticipates a 30% annual growth in visitor numbers from 2030, enhancing connectivity and mutual interest between the two countries.
“Oman’s participation in FITUR marks the beginning of a new phase in promoting our country in Spain. We want Spanish travelers to discover the natural, cultural, and historical richness of Oman and strengthen links with the Spanish tourism sector to develop offerings suited to their interests,” emphasizes the Minister of Heritage and Tourism of Oman, H.E. Salim M. Almahruqi.
Oman launched a strategic advertising campaign in key media outlets, both inside and outside IFEMA, during FITUR, which significantly increased the visibility of the destination and its image in the Spanish market.
Looking forward to 2025, Oman will continue presenting innovative projects to attract international tourists. Among the significant developments highlighted are the transformation of Fort Al Jalali in Muscat into an interactive cultural destination that combines history and modernity, as well as the development of the Coastal Tourism Zone in Duqm, designed to provide an exceptional experience for visitors. Additionally, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism will continue to strengthen relations with the Spanish market, promoting a bridge of cultural and economic exchanges between both countries.
